NRCS Area of Potential Effect (APE) Analysis WebTool

created by the North Carolina USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Ecological Sciences Section (ECS) to serve as a Basemap for the collection and display of Special Environmental Concerns (SECs) and other relevant natural resources data in the form of geospatial information. The APE Analysis WebTool is a decision-support tool intended to be used by natural resource professionals to assist with pre-planning, early-scoping, and routine environmental analysis activities in support of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

NRCS Web Soil Survey

Web Soil Survey (WSS) provides soil data and information produced by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. It is operated by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and provides access to the largest natural resource information system in the world.

North Carolina Field Office Technical Guide

Technical guides are the primary scientific references for NRCS. They contain technical information about the conservation of soil, water, air, and related plant and animal resources.

NRCS 9 Steps of Conservation Planning

A conservation plan identifies the customer’s conservation objectives and assesses and analyzes the natural resources issues on that customer’s land related to soil, water, animals, plants, air, energy, and human interaction. There are 9 steps in the planning process to ensure the cooperators needs are met and resources are conserved.

The Division of Soil and Water Conservation, housed within the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, works in cooperation with the North Carolina Soil and Water Conservation Commission and the 96 local Soil and Water Conservation Districts to protect and improve soil and water resources throughout the state.
